The event, to be held on Oct. 30 in London, will highlight leading companies' radio frequency identification deployments in the region, and demonstrate the latest technology solutions.

RFID Journal LIVE! Europe—UK, to be held on Oct. 30 in London, England, will focus on educating end users about how radio frequency identification technology is delivering real business benefits across Europe. At this unique program:

Historic Royal Palaces will discuss the results of a two-year project involving the use of an active RFID mesh network to track conditions that could degrade its stone walls and artwork at the Tower of London. The organization will explain why it continues to utilize the technology to track the environmental cycles of ambient and surface temperatures, as well as humidity, at the two towers.

Smirnoff has been promoting its vodka products at a series of parties and other events enabling guests to share their activities with friends on Facebook, using an RFID-enabled token. The events' organizers will discuss how the solution has been utilized at a variety of nightclubs throughout the past year, as part of the company's Smirnoff Nightlife Exchange Project and Battle of the Clubs programs, with users updating their pages to indicate where they are and what they are doing, as well as uploading pictures and voting for their favorite drinks, DJs and dancers.

• Dr. Bill Hardgrave, Dean and Wells Fargo Professor at Auburn University's College of Business, will outline how to obtain maximum value from employing RFID in the retail industry. Hardgrave will explain why, in all use cases to date, the technology has been underutilized and misunderstood as simply "a super bar code." He will discuss the emergence and misapplication of RFID, and explore how the technology should be properly viewed and deployed.

"RFID is being implemented across a wide variety of sectors throughout Europe," says Mark Robert, RFID Journal's founder and editor, "and we are thrilled to have such a diverse lineup of industry leaders presenting and exhibiting at our first U.K. event."

In addition, LIVE! Europe—UK will feature an exhibit area in which leading technology companies will showcase their latest solutions. Attendees will have the opportunity to hear from those who have already deployed RFID, and to network with leading end users.
