Wiliot, Walmart, and the Future of Physical AI

Published: October 8, 2025

The most transformative technologies are those that connect directly with the physical world— the food we eat, the medicine we rely on, the goods that sustain global commerce. That vision is now being realized through Wiliot’s collaboration with Walmart, where millions of our IoT Pixels are being deployed across one of the most sophisticated supply chains in existence.

This deployment represents the largest rollout of ambient IoT in retail to date. By combining Wiliot’s IoT Pixels with Walmart’s advanced AI systems, associates gain real-time visibility into inventory accuracy, cold chain compliance, and operational efficiency at a scale previously unattainable. The result is a supply chain that moves faster, responds smarter, and ensures better outcomes for associates and customers alike.

Our IoT Pixels verify that pallets are delivered accurately, digitally record cold chain compliance, and more – automatically, passively, and without added labor. These continuous data signals represent a new AI data source for one of the world’s most sophisticated supply chains, providing real-time performance insights to both associates and algorithms. The result is a system that moves faster, responds smarter, and delivers better outcomes for associates and customers alike.

Walmart Partnership

I want to take this opportunity to recognize what makes this achievement possible. First, Walmart’s leadership and vision. Their willingness to embrace new technology and embed it into the core of their operations reflects a deep commitment to innovation, to their associates, and to their customers. Just as important, the Wiliot team. Delivering a solution of this scale and complexity required extraordinary effort, creativity, and resilience. To each of them, I extend my sincere thanks.

And yet, this milestone is only the beginning.

Rise of Physical AI

The Walmart deployment demonstrates what becomes possible when ambient IoT data feeds into AI at scale. But the opportunity extends far beyond retail supply chains. What we are building is part of something larger – the rise of Physical AI.

For decades, artificial intelligence was confined to the digital world— an engine for analyzing clicks, searches, and streams of online data. Physical AI represents the next stage: applying intelligence to the physical world through continuous sensing of the objects and environments around us.

In healthcare, it ensures a dose of insulin is taken safely. In food logistics, it verifies that perishable goods remain within temperature thresholds. In manufacturing, it prevents allergens from being introduced into clean environments. Each of these applications illustrates the broader impact of Physical AI and relies on a conduit between the physical and digital realms— and that is precisely what Wiliot’s low-cost IoT Pixels provide.

Role of Ambient IoT

By serving as that conduit, Wiliot supplies the data that makes Physical AI actionable. Our IoT Pixels capture real-time signals – temperature, location, humidity, dwell time – revealing exactly what is happening in the physical world. This data is mined with minimal disruption and without costly infrastructure overhauls, making it easy for enterprises to scale. When transformed into intelligence, these signals enable AI systems to move from prediction to precision, from probabilistic models to grounded decisions.

Physical AI extends across every domain where the physical world intersects with digital intelligence: agriculture, healthcare, transportation, and more. The Physical AI data layer we are building today has relevance across them all, unlocking new levels of safety, efficiency, and sustainability.

The collaboration with Walmart validates the maturity of our technology and accelerates what comes next. It demonstrates that Physical AI is already operating at scale, delivering measurable results, and reshaping industries.

At the Beginning

So while today we celebrate an important milestone, we do so with an eye to the future. This is the beginning of a much larger story— one where ambient IoT and AI combine to make the physical world as intelligent, responsive, and adaptive as the digital.

We’re just getting started.
