March 24, 2006—This week saw an announcement from Precision Dynamics Corporation that its Smart Band solution has been implemented at the Great Wolf Lodge in the Poconos, a popular tourist region in the mountains of northeastern Pennsylvania. A 401-room, $92 million family resort, the Great Wolf Lodge is a destination unto itself, and its management turned to RFID technology to enhance its guests' experiences.
The PDC Smart Band solution is essentially a system by which a guest family's money and keys can be consolidated -- digitally -- onto bands worn on the wrists of each family member. The hope is that the inconveniences of misplaced or water-logged cash, credit cards, room keys, and locker keys will become a thing of the past.
Upon check-in, guests receive and put on their bands, which enable keyless entry into their hotel rooms. Guests can load their bands with money then, by charging it to the hotel room account, or they can do so by cash or credit card at the lodge's points-of-sale and strategically placed PDC Smart Kiosks.
Thereafter the bands offer a simple cashless payment method throughout the lodge. In addition to the obvious benefits of faster check-out, the digital money system enables parents to give their children a certain allowance by adding it electronically to their bands. And because the bands are simple, robust pieces of plastic, they can be worn without problem in the water park, where so often kids forget to empty their pockets of cash before jumping in. Kids can also use the bands to pay for video game play in the arcade.
Precision Dynamics Corporation is located in San Fernando, California. The fifty year old company specializes in smart band solutions, which it sells across myriad settings and industries. In just the last month, PDC has announced deployments of its technology for emergency room patient identification, stadium-worker tracking, and patron ID and age verification for nightclubs.
