Bluetooth and RFID Merge to Link CPG to IoT

Published: April 18, 2018

With Bluetooth radios shrinking to be smaller than RFID tags, smartphones and Wi-Fi routers can now provide gateways between the worlds of consumer packaged goods (CPG) and the Internet of Things (IoT). Understanding this new technology is not enough when changing the whole lifecycle of products that weren’t previously connected. Adding Bluetooth and ARM processing to pharmaceuticals, cosmetics and apparel means they can be manufactured differently and tracked through the supply chain in new ways. Products can help sell themselves, and their functionality is changed. This presentation explains how Bluetooth and RFID technologies are merging, the new functionality that is available, and the business opportunities and threats.
