SML to Demo Clarity at Microsoft Headquarters

RFID company SML RFID was selected to showcase its Clarity RFID solution at the Microsoft Industry Experience Center (IEC), in Redmond, WA. The IEC is a private space at Microsoft's headquarters intended to feature cutting edge technologies to drive innovation.

The Clarity RFID solution provides an inventory and supply chain management application for retail technology. As part of the IEC showcasing, SML demonstrated the system in the retail environment to show visitors at the center the benefits of implementing RFID solutions, including enhanced inventory accuracy, optimized operational efficiency and improved customer satisfaction.

The software leveraged the Microsoft Azure cloud computing service.

Penguin Location Services Teams with ZulaFly for Workflow Solution

IoT company Penguin Location Services has teamed with it workflow application provider—ZulaFly—to develop health care solutions for location and safety that include RFID-based real time locating systems (RTLS).

ZulaFly’s cloud-hosted solution is designed to support over 100 workflows and use cases for the health care market. It partners with vendors for RTLS and other technology to deliver solutions aimed at large health systems in North America and around the world.

Penguin offers its own portfolio of location-based solutions using its AI and machine learning algorithms along with Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) enabled devices to manage the location of tagged items with an accuracy down to the bed- or chair-level within a room. The companies say the partnership will enable a new generation of location-based workflow solutions in the healthcare market.

Rehrig Pacific acquires RFID company QTek Design

Logistics and material handling solutions company Rehrig Pacific acquired QTek Design, a Canadian maker of specialty machines for pallet splitting, exchanging and dispensing. Rehrig Pacific officials calls the acquisition a strategic move to deliver cutting-edge solutions that help its customers optimize operations and achieve greater efficiency and productivity.

QTek Design is the provider of a RFID-enabled pallet dispensing solution known as DStacker. With the integration of QTek Design's product portfolio, expertise, and technology into Rehrig Pacific's offerings, the latter company reports that it is poised to accelerate innovation, address warehouse inefficiencies, and drive business improvements across their customer base.

As part of the acquisition, Rehrig Pacific—which provides waste, recycling and supply chain systems—will be Integrating QTek’s pallet handling equipment, including RFID systems, into its own portfolio.
