RFID Journal LIVE!2025: Focus on Digital Product Passport

Published: April 1, 2025

The 23rd edition of RFID Journal LIVE! 2025 is beginning to take shape and one of the deep dives this year is the opportunities the Digital Product Passports (DPP) mandate from the EU will have for the industry.

The world’s largest conference and exhibition focused on radio frequency identification and related technologies, LIVE typically features more than 100 exhibitors from 26 countries showcasing best-in-class RFID tags, readers, software and implementation services.

The show in 2025 will be held May 6-8 at the Paris Hotel in Las Vegas, NV. The 2025 conference will include three days of industry-specific and how-to tracks, as well as general education for those new to the RFID market.

Conference tracks and education sessions give participants the opportunity to hear compelling case studies, share best practices, network with their peers and learn about the latest technological advances from the vendor community.

DPP, Yeah You Know Me

Digital Product Passports (DPP), are digital profiles attached to products, providing detailed information about their origin, materials, usage, and end-of-life handling. The driving force behind DPP is the goal of creating a circular economy, promoting sustainability. Titled Digital Product Passport: Gateway to Sustainability, Transparency, this track will cover how DPP is being used to encourage sustainable production of materials and energy, thereby extending the life of products, and maximizing product performance. You’ll hear from industry experts from AIM and RAIN Alliance, as well as PVH, REGOM US, and Qualcomm.

Track Name: Digital Product Passport: Gateway to Sustainability, Transparency

Session Title: Digital Product Passport: How to Build it and Drive New Revenue Using NFC

Date: May 7, 8:45 AM

Speaker: Jim Barlow, RFID/NFC Technical Marketing, STMicroelectronics

Description: Digital Product Passports (DPPs) collect and share comprehensive data about a product, spanning its entire value chain. By doing so, DPPs empower all stakeholders, including brands and consumers, to gain a deeper insight into the product information, and reach sustainability goals. In this session, learn how DPPs provide an unprecedented level of transparency, enabling brands to build trust and stand out, especially among cautious consumers. Gain an understanding of how the DPP facilitates upstream and downstream communications. Also, hear how customers benefit from increased transparency (upstream), while brands can interact with customers anytime, anywhere (downstream).

Session Title: Track Sponsor: Pragmatic Semiconductor

Date: May 7, 9:35 AM

Speaker: James Davey, SVP Sales, Business Development & Product Management, Pragmatic Semiconductor

Session Title: RAIN: Reinforcing the Power of Digital Product Passports and Enabling Sustainable Chains

Date: May 7, 10:25 AM

Speaker: Dr. Susanne Guth-Orlowski, DPP Specialist, RAIN Alliance

Jonathan Aitken, VP Global On Product Technology, PVH

Melissa Auge, Marketing and Business Development North America, REGOM US

Alireza Yasan, Director Of Business Development, Qualcomm

Megan Brewster, VP Advanced Technology, Impinj

Description: Digital product passports (DPP) are an essential component in the quest to produce more sustainable products for a circular economy. To meet regularity requirements (beginning in 2027/28 and mandatory by 2030 in all 27 EU member nations) companies are increasingly turning to RAIN technology. RAIN (UHF RFID) is a wireless technology that connects trillions of everyday items to the internet, enabling businesses and consumers to identify, locate, authenticate, and engage each item. In this session learn how the DPP requirements will impact the retail sector. Also hear the latest sustainability use cases for supply chains. Gain an understanding of how integrating RAIN RFID functionality in mobile device chipsets will help fulfil DPP requirements as well as enabling workers and consumers use their phones or other devices to engage with RFID tagged products or assets.

Session Title: From Raw Material to Recycling – How AIDC Powers Digital Product Passports

Date: May 7, 11:15 AM

Speaker: Pierre Muller, RFID Business Unit Manager, EM Microelectronic

Joe Hoerl, Principal Consultant – IoT, RFIDKNOW

Wayne Oldham, Innovation and Sustainable Technology Director, 4id Solutions

Bethan Taylor, Global Sustainability Manager, Checkpoint Systems

Description: Digital Product Passports promise to revolutionize sustainability, but their success depends on accurate, automated data collection. In this session, learn from AIM’s panel of experts how RFID and smart labels enable end-to-end product lifecycle tracking, from raw material sourcing to recycling and reuse. Discover how these and IoT technologies ensure reliable data entry into DPPs, supporting compliance, reducing waste, and enabling brands to provide consumers with verifiable sustainability claims. Gain insights into real-world implementations and learn best practices for integrating these technologies into your digital product passport strategy”.

Others tracks to be held during the conference include:

  • Tell Me More: Innovative Use Cases in Retail
  • Beyond The Pilot: Real World Implementations and Outcomes in Manufacturing
  • IoT, ChatGPT? Blockchain? AI? NLP? What Do I Do with This Stuff
  • Enhancing Supply Chain Resilience: What’s AI And ML Got to do With It?
  • Utilizing Cutting-Edge Solutions in Healthcare, Food and Pharma
  • Navigating Healthcare, Food and Retail Compliance
  • Digital Doppelgangers: Powering Operations with Digital Twins and Gen AI

 Training Opportunities

In addition to track sessions, LIVE! 2025 will present an advanced, one-day fast-track RFID certification course, presented by RFID4U, covering the latest equipment and relevant RFID deployment scenarios. This course will provide a solid foundation to design, install, configure, monitor and troubleshoot RFID deployment, as well as prepare participants for the RFID Professional Institute Certified Associate exam. Each participant will receive a voucher to take the exam online, after the event.

Another offering is RAIN Alliance Training, presented by RAIN Alliance, and the RAIN Alliance Sustainability and Circularity Community. As companies face increasing pressure to meet sustainability targets and build more resilient operations, understanding how RAIN technology can support these goals is essential — especially in light of evolving regulatory requirements and shifting consumer preferences toward the circular economy. Whether you’re managing projects, optimizing supply chains, or driving corporate sustainability goals, these sessions offer actionable insights and hands-on strategies tailored to your needs.
