Fret SNCF, the largest rail freight operator in France, is using Internet of Things (IoT) technologies to provide a more efficient freight transport service. The firm is employing the technology to track wagons and smart containers in transit across the globe, through the use of dedicated sensors, an IoT network and a customized portal.
Nicolas Marceix, the firm’s head of innovations for digital freight trains, will present a case study on this project at RFID Journal LIVE! Europe 2019. The event will take place on Nov. 13, with RFID Professional Institute certification training held on Nov. 12.
Fret SNCF has digitalized its freight operations and transformed conventional rail wagons into intelligent wagons capable of managing any type of asset, while connecting rail freight to the rest of the multimodal supply chain. This case study is relevant to any company managing logistics assets.
“We are very excited to have Fret SNCF speaking at LIVE! Europe,” says Mark Roberti, RFID Journal’s founder and editor. “These are the kinds of case studies you cannot hear about anywhere else. It’s an opportunity for any company to learn how it can transform the management of its logistics assets.”
RFID Journal LIVE! Europe, now in its 15th year, is the most important event in Europe covering radio frequency identification (RFID) and Internet of Things technologies. The event will feature keynote addresses by leading users of these technologies, plus two tracks: a main track focused on manufacturing, logistics and other operations, and a retail track, in which experts and retailers using RFID will present sessions designed to help other retailers learn how to use the technology successfully.
