Webinar Report: RFRain Smart Reader, Identiv Eco-Friendly Tags

By RFID Journal

This week, RFID Journal continued its series of webinars highlighting the Best New Product finalists of 2020.

On May 26, RFID Journal presented a webinar titled "Best New Products of 2020: RFRain Smart Reader and Identiv Eco-Friendly Tags." Each webinar in this series features two products chosen as  RFID Journal Award finalists, which will be exhibited at the  RFID Journal LIVE! 2020 conference and exhibition, to be held on Sept. 9-11 in Orlando, Fla. The webinar's speakers were Danny Akaoui, RFRain's CEO and founder, and Vera Mauerberger, Identiv's product manager for transponders.

During this online event, RFRain discussed its RFR-RAIN-4-SMART-ADV UHF RFID smart reader. According to the company, the device is designed to replace complex, expensive RFID systems with a single product that provides both a hardware and software platform. Next, Identiv discussed its Eco-Friendly RFID and NFC tags that feature non-etched, paper-based transponder inlays built to reduce the traditional use of PET-based substrates and byproducts. The tags are manufactured on renewable paper, without plastic layers and harmful chemicals, and they have a low carbon footprint.

An archived recording of the presentation is now available to view on demand, and a PDF of the slides used has been created as well. The presenters own the copyright to these materials, which are being offered for viewers' personal reference and should not be reused without permission. Akaoui designed and developed RFRain's unified software communication stack, which serves as the backbone of the company's products. He also created the hardware communication board that allows the firm to provide customers with products that can integrate hardware and software. Mauerberger was previously part of Identiv's R&D department team and was deeply involved in the entire product-development process. She has a master's degree in engineering from Munich University of Applied Sciences, with a focus on print media, technology and management for printed electronics.
