October 1, 2004—The University of California at Los Angeles will be holding a conference on radio frequency identification next week at which middleware developed by the university's Wireless Internet for the Mobile Enterprise Consortium will be released. The software, developed by 25 researchers and students and built around Web services, will be targeted at the retail, medical, and pharameutical industries and the U.S. Department of Defense.
