Ask The ExpertsIs It Legal to Use Passive Tags and Readers to Track Classified Media and Computers Within an Open Storage Area?
RFID Journal Staff asked 9 years ago
The U.S. Department of Defense’s Directive 8100.02 prohibits the use of wireless devices within its classified information-processing facilities. Any input would be appreciated.

I reached out to several people within the U.S. Department of Defense, but could not find anyone who knows the answer to this question. The people dealing with information systems are unfamiliar with RFID, and those focused on RFID’s use for logistics are not well-versed in policies related to data centers. If any of our readers have any information about this directive and how it applies to radio frequency identification, please post it below.
