February 1, 2008—RFID World China has released four top-10 rankings related to Chinese RFID adoption in 2007: the top ten RFID industry vendors in China, the top ten applications, the top ten events, and the top ten products. The results were selected over a 20-day voting period from hundreds of applicants, with the “aim to review and summarize the developments achieved in the past year and give RFID vendors who make a great contribution to the industry a chance to get recognition from the RFID community.” For those unfamiliar with the Chinese market, the rankings provide a snapshot of some of the most important players, developments, and deployments. Note that RFID World China is unrelated to CMP Media’s annual RFID World event in North America.
Recall that China represented the world largest RFID market in 2007, thanks to the national ID card program (see IDTechEx: China is Largest RFID Market in 2007). That program will see less spending going forward, but research firm IDTechEx remains bullish on the nation’s market, noting recently, “There are a vast number of new RFID projects in China that will take up the slack now that the glory days of the national ID card are over.” (See Highlights from IDTechEx’s Review of RFID in 2007.)
