Would RFID technology, combined with a Wi-Fi backaul for communication to servers, work well indoors?

It depends. Many passive ultrahigh-frequency (UHF) readers now come equipped with Wi-Fi functionality for sending data to back-end systems. In many cases, this works just fine. But if your readers are capturing information from large numbers of tags, transferring all of the data captured—tag serial numbers, timestamps, reader ID numbers, the specific antennas that recorded the read events, and user data—could slow your Wi-Fi network down for other users.
