Globally, shippers suffer $2.3 trillion in damaged goods every year, amounting to 2 percent of all products shipped. Accidents can happen, but an RFID Journal webinar held on Mar. 31, 2020, discussed simple solutions that can help companies deter, detect and diagnose damage in their supply chain so that they can reduce losses by half. The webinar, titled “Damage Control: How to Reduce Waste in Your Supply Chain,” was presented by Jan van Niekerk, the VP of engineering and innovation at SpotSee, and Louis Parker, the VP of strategic development at Smart Label Solutions.
According to the presenters, simply understanding when and where damage occurs is a huge driver of damage reduction. On top of that, adding insight into a company’s supply chain can cause a behavioral shift in the way packages are handled. During the webinar, Niekerk and Parker outlined how to apply the same principles to damage reduction as a traditional program, but without the need for visual inspection.
An archived recording of the webinar is now available on RFID Journal’s website, and a PDF of the slides used in the presentation has been created for your convenience. The 58-minute recording can be accessed here, while the slides can be viewed here.
