RFID Journal has named Jonathan Collins its full-time Europe editor, based in London. Collins, a native of the United Kingdom, will cover radio frequency identification deployments and issues throughout Europe.

“One of the major applications of RFID technologies is to track goods through the global supply chain, so it’s important to cover the technology globally,” says Mark Roberti, founder and editor of RFID Journal. “We have run many case studies on European companies and covered regulatory and other issues aggressively. Having a full-time person in Europe enables us to serve our very large audience there, as well as the needs of readers in other regions who want to keep abreast of what’s happening in Europe.”

Collins was previously RFID Journal’s senior editor, based in New York. He has covered RFID technologies full-time longer than any other journalist aside from Roberti. He comes to his new position with extensive knowledge of and contacts within Europe’s RFID community.

“The situation in Europe is unique in that many companies within the region have used RFID extensively, but regulatory issues make deploying UHF technologies difficult,” says Collins. “I look forward to covering the leading early adopters and continuing to show how and where different RFID technologies—passive UHF, HF and LF tags, active tags and advanced wireless sensors—can benefit companies today and in the future.”

In addition to covering RFID throughout Europe, Collins will be participating in RFID Journal LIVE! Europe, RFID Journal’s world-class executive conference, which will be held in Amsterdam, Oct. 10 to 12. “We have already lined up many of the top implementers of RFID technology in Europe,” says Collins. “I look forward to moderating interactive panels in which end users will be able to get answers straight from the companies that have already benefited from different types of RFID technologies and are struggling with issues surrounding the deployment of UHF Electronic Product Code technologies.”

Collins brings more than 10 years’ experience to the position. Before joining RFID Journal, he was a senior editor at CMP Media.
