Jun 21, 2017The Universal Postal Union (UPU), a specialized United Nations (UN) agency that coordinates postal policies among member nations, has issued a request for proposals for the procurement of ultrahigh-frequency (UHF) radio frequency identification equipment. The supplied RFID hardware must be capable of monitoring postal items in real time at the operational facilities where postal traffic is received and processed.
The UPU was founded in Switzerland in 1874 to establish a single postal territory for the reciprocal exchange of letter-post items. Comprising 192 member countries, it became a specialized agency of the UN in 1948.
The agency provides its member countries with the required RFID equipment, consisting of a main unit comprising an RFID reader and a respective power supply, as well as an RF antenna and cabling housed in a protective enclosure for easy installation. Additional RF antennas may be connected to the main unit. These components are either offered separately in a modular kit or integrated into a compact structure to be installed zenithally or laterally, depending on the postal scenario.
