Opening During a Pandemic: USOPM Leverages RFID to Personalize Content and Enable Pandemic-Era Safety

The United States Olympic & Paralympic Museum (USOPM), which opened in the summer of 2020 despite the COVID-19 pandemic, is leveraging a radio frequency identification system initially designed to personalize the visitor experience. The 60,000-square-foot museum offers a personalized experience using digital content that can be modified according to a visitor’s specific interests, as well as his or her physical or mental accessibility requirements. The RFID system enables the museum to set the occupancy levels and alert the staff if a gallery is approaching its maximum number of guests allowed, and also provides the opportunity for contact tracing.
