Ask The ExpertsCould an RFID Tag Be Read Through a Locomotive’s Metal Structure?

I have a query regarding RFID functionality: Imagine that an omnidirectional 2.4 GHz active RFID reader is stationed within a locomotive cab, which is mostly metal-shielded, with little area of glass window, and an active RFID tag is attached to a wayside railway traffic signal post. My question is this: Would that reader be able to interrogate RF signals without hindrance?

It's unlikely that you would be able to read the tag through the metal. I would suggest placing the reader on the outside of the train.
