Ask The ExpertsCan RFID Readers Designed for Tracking Pets Also Read Tags Used on Bicycles?

I imagine that they employ the same frequency, but I can't find an answer to this question. If they don't, would I need to buy separate readers for different RFID products?

James,

I'm unclear whether you are merely using bicycles as an example of a product that might be tagged, or have a specific bicycle-tracking solution in mind. But to answer your question, the transponders used in animals operate in the low-frequency (LF) range—125 KHz or 134 KHz—whereas many tags used on products operate in the ultrahigh-frequency (UHF) band. So tags used on bicycles, clothing, jewelry and other items can all be read using the same interrogator, but those utilized to track animals would require a separate reader.
