Seritag, a leading supplier of NFC tags for more than five years, has launched a new range of NFC-integrated wearable IDs designed to make safeguarding information sharing simple, accessible and secure.
Seritag’s Lumiio is a smart, wearable IDs use NFC contactless technology to provide instant, secure access to essential information, including emergency contacts and key preferences. Being NFC-enabled makes our products both intuitive and accessible, immediately breaking down knowledge barriers and facilitating first responders and community members to give specialized support.
Seritag has been supplying NFC enabled wristbands and products for many years— partnering with police, dementia and charity safeguarding initiatives, first responders and local councils. Through these partnerships, the team found that a large number of users struggled to use the bands with standard NFC applications.
Launch of Lumilo
According to Helen Jones, Co-founder of Lumiio and COO of Seritag, the conpany’s new wearable was launched to create NFC integrated products and dedicated mobile apps that make safeguarding data sharing convenient, accessible and secure.
“Seritag’s work with police and councils highlighted how critical information barriers can be in safeguarding situations,” said Jones. “Data security was also a primary concern for government bodies. That’s why we designed Lumiio with NFC to better support vulnerable individuals while providing confidence in secure data handling.’
NFC Solution
It’s reported that in the UK alone, someone with dementia goes missing every 13 minutes. Lumiio is designed to bridge the critical information gap between vulnerable individuals and those who want to help. By harnessing contactless technology, NFC makes Lumiio truly accessible and intuitive without compromising security.
Jones observed that many of the similar ‘SOS’ type products on the market utilize QR codes to provide access to a vulnerable person’s essential information. However, despite the accessibility and public knowledge about QR codes, a large number of the organizations they worked with had substantial concerns over privacy and data security issues.
To combat this, Lumiio products use integrated NFC tag so that a vulnerable individual’s information is still instantly accessible but instead stored directly on the wearable IDs. By removing any central database storage, vulnerable individuals’ data is far better protected. Additionally, it also allows the information to be available without access to the internet via the Lumiio app.
Currently, Lumiio products utilize NXP’s popular NTAG215 chip due to its balance between price and memory capacity. Lumiio compresses the data stored to maximize storage, allowing for both essential information, such as dementia or allergies, and emergency contact information.
