Wiliot is expanding a collaboration with Walmart that represents the first large-scale deployment of Ambient IoT technology in the retail sector.
By combining Wiliot’s ambient IoT technology with Walmart’s advanced artificial intelligence (AI) systems throughout the retailers supply chain, the collaboration is designed to enhance supply chain efficiency, inventory accuracy, and cold chain compliance, according to officials from both companies.
The goal of the partnership is to provide real-time insights into inventory management for retail operations— knowing exactly what merchandise is owned and where it is at any moment.
Wiliot Outlook
Wiliot CEO Tal Tami said the collaboration with Walmart will advance supply chain performance at an unprecedented scale.
“This nationwide deployment adds a new layer of digitization to Walmart’s supply chain, empowering associates with real-time insights and automation that drive greater efficiency, accuracy, and responsiveness,” said Tami. “It’s a testament to the power of ambient IoT and artificial intelligence to help retailers operate smarter, move faster, and deliver stronger outcomes for their business, their associates, and their customers.”
Current Use at Walmart
The solution is currently deployed across 500 Walmart locations, with plans for national expansion in 2026. The rollout will cover 4,600 Walmart Supercenters, Neighborhood Markets, and over 40 distribution centers, generating high-resolution supply chain data that feeds into Walmart’s AI systems.
Wiliot’s IoT Pixels are being used to track Walmart pallets at scale, with a goal of reaching 90 million by the end of 2026. This initiative stands as one of the largest ambient IoT deployments to date, providing a new source of supply chain data for Walmart’s expanding use of AI.
This collaboration highlights Wiliot’s commitment to leveraging cutting-edge technology to improve supply chain operations and deliver exceptional value to partners and their customers. By uniting the power of ambient IoT and AI, Wiliot and Walmart are setting a new benchmark for innovation in the retail industry, said Tami.
Improving Retail Service
For Walmart, the collaboration empowers its associates to act quickly, make smarter decisions, and dedicate more time to serving customers— and had already making a significant impact by eliminating manual tasks and delivering automated alerts. Enhanced visibility has also helped resolve inventory discrepancies, ensuring smoother operations and improved customer experiences.
Greg Cathey, Walmart Senior Vice President of Transformation & Innovation, commented the enhanced visibility provides the retailer to deliver the consistent value, quality, and experience their customers expect.
“At Walmart, technology is in service of people – both our customers and our associates,” said Cathey. “With Wiliot’s ambient IoT technology, coupled with our AI systems, we’re not only optimizing our supply chain to make faster, smarter inventory decisions, but we’re also tackling one of the hardest problems in retail—knowing exactly what we own and where it is at any given moment.”
