Is it possible to do this at specific touch-points, while keeping the other touch-point at full-range?

To answer your question, I reached out to Mark Brown, an RFID expert who is Fujitsu's senior RFID solution architecture manager. Mark says the technology is capable of restricting the range at certain read points, but he is unaware of anyone having actually implemented this to date. There are two ways of doing it, he states: "With an active system, you usually have the ability for the tag to identify a discrete reader. Using the unique ID from the reader, the tag can reference a short list of readers with which it communicates. The other alternative is to give the reader the logic (via the controlling software) that only tags within a certain distance may be written to."
