If I were to try to read a high-frequency tag using an ultrahigh-frequency antenna, what would happen?

Francois,

Nothing would happen. The HF tag would not be tuned to receive signals at that frequency—and, in any case, the microchip inside the HF tag would not be programmed to understand commands from a UHF reader. It would be like trying to listen to an AM radio channel with an FM-only radio. It simply wouldn't work.
