Most or all of them have a Bluetooth module in them, but our customer cannot have any wireless hardware in their buildings. We have the capability to remove the Bluetooth modules if we have manufacturer support for the firmware modification. What would you advise?

Vic,

I've been speaking with some manufacturers about your challenge, and I have learned that Zebra Technologies has such a product in the works, which fits your needs and will be available toward the end of the year. In the meantime, there is firmware available that will lock up the Bluetooth functionality, in which case you could leave the modules and just turn Bluetooth off. I reached out to some other handset manufacturers who have not responded, so I'm less confident that there are other readers that would fit your requirements with iOS devices, though I'll continue to keep an ear out.
