I assume you are looking to monitor the stress on, say, a bridge or a suspended walkway. I have not heard of ultra-wideband (UWB) technology being used in this manner, but it might be possible. UWB provides very accurate location information under the proper conditions (if there is a lot of metal in your environment, this reflects radio waves and makes it difficult to get a very accurate position of a tagged item). So if you have a suspended walkway, it might be possible to tag it at certain points and set the system to signal an alarm if, for instance, it were overloaded with people and the center was dipping too much. This early warning could ensure that travelers would be asked to leave the walkway immediately, and thereby prevent it from collapsing.
