July 12, 2004—Singapore sees the burgeoning RFID field as an opportunity to establish itself as Asia's dominant player in a key transformative technology. Initiatives currently underway include a $5.8 million government investment in RFID promotion and research; the formation of a forum composed of RFID professionals and academic experts; the development by the country's two major public universities of courses in RFID; and the allegiance of local RFID groups with leading international institutions such as MIT's Auto-ID Labs.
