Ask The ExpertsWould It Be Possible to Set an RFID Reader to Interrogate Tags at Specific Time Intervals?

So, for instance, could I arrange for the device to read tags every 10 seconds?

Rajesh,

To answer your question, I reached out to Sanjiv Dua, the CEO of systems integration and training firm RFID4U. Sanjiv says that most passive UHF RFID readers can be programmed to begin reading tags at set intervals for a specific period, and to then stop doing so. They can also be set up to interrogate tags continuously, but to only report on the read reads every 10 seconds. It would depend on what you are trying to achieve.

According to Sanjiv, you would typically need to write a software command to program the reader in this way. The software could either run on the reader itself or on an external server that would transmit commands to the device. You should be able to use the software development kit that comes with many readers to accomplish this.
