I don't think there is a state-of-the-art for triangulation. Standard triangulation is accomplished by recording the time of arrival of a signal from a tag at three or more RFID readers, and then calculating the tag's location based on the amount of time it took for the RF signal to reach each antenna. Some companies have improved the ability to locate the tag by measuring the angle of arrival, the received signal strength and other factors. But these are proprietary algorithms backed into their systems, and not published best practices.
