Suppose RFID tags were set to transmit every 10 minutes. What would be the expected lifespan if they were active tags designed for embedding in metal?

I cannot provide a precise answer, since battery life varies for different types of active RFID systems, and different manufacturers use various batteries with specific lifespans. I would say, generally, that a 10-minute beacon rate is not very high, and that you could probably expect a two- to five-year battery life. You could also work with most active RFID technology providers to find batteries that would last longer, if you needed to. Of course, that would cost more.
