If so, what companies should I contact to find out more information? And if not, how do they connect to a LAN or Wi-Fi network?

Aluru,
To answer your question, I reached out to Sanjiv Dua, the president of RFID4U, a leading systems integration and training firm. Sanjiv says International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) numbers are typically for used mobile or satellite phones and are not found in RFID readers. Fixed RFID readers that connect to a local area network (LAN) typically have a media access control (MAC) address, like a computer does, to identify them on the network. Handheld readers connecting to a Wi-Fi network also use a MAC address.
