Has any company ever used a leaky cable assembly for reading an array of ultrahigh-frequency (UHF) RFID transponders?

For those unaware, a leaky cable (sometimes called a leaky feeder or a radiating cable) is not a coaxial cable that is defective. Rather, it is a cable designed with slots in its outer conductor to allow a radio signal to leak into or out of the cable along its entire length. I have never heard of any company using such a set-up, however. If any of our readers are aware of a leaky cable having been used with an RFID system, or if they know of a reason why this would not work, they are invited to post information below.
