Several companies offer hybrid active radio frequency identification tags that combine RFID and infrared ID technologies, including RF Code (see RTLS Combines Infrared and RFID), Centrak (see New Cross Hospital Boosts Hand Hygiene, Efficiency via RTLS) and Versus (see MERS Infection Puts RTLS Technology in the Spotlight). RF Code offers tags designed specifically for attachment to servers. A company named Scirocco used to offer passive ID tags that employed infrared signals instead of RF (see Metal-Powder Factory Adopts IRID), though I am unsure if the firm still makes such tags.
