The type of RFID required would depend on what you mean by "the positions" of the rejection sensors and whether you need this information in real time. If you need to know, for example, that a sensor is located 5 meters (16.4 feet) from the end of the line or on section 12 of the conveyor, and if you don't need this information in real time, then you could probably place Near Field Communication (NFC) tags on the sensors and on specific sections of the conveyor, or at specific points that mark the length of the conveyor. You could then create a simple smartphone app and have staff members read the tags on the conveyor and then on the sensor. Software would thus associate sensor 1 with conveyor location 12.
If, on the other hand, you need to know the sensor's position relative to the facility's geography and in real time, you could use an active ultra-wideband (UWB) transponder on the sensor, with UWB readers placed around the facility to obtain a very precise location on a facility map. UWB tags could also be affixed to specific pieces of conveyor equipment. You would then be able to see this data in real time, all the time. UWB systems can provide location accuracy of 10 centimeters (4 inches), which is better than any other active or passive RFID system.
