Do you know when such phones will hit the mass market?

Olivier,

I believe that RFID reader manufacturers are working on readers that can be embedded in smartphones, but I have not heard of any timetable for when these chips will be available or when phone manufacturers will make them part of their handsets. My guess is that it will be five years or so before we will see a large number of cell phones with passive ultrahigh-frequency (UHF) readers in them. I say this because even after reader chips small enough to put in phones become available, phone manufacturers will need a reason to buy and use them. At present, most consumer products lack passive UHF tags, so there might not be any incentive to add the chips to phones for a few more years—but it certainly will happen eventually.
