The answer is yes, but this is a slightly trickier question than it might seem. Generally speaking, an RFID reader—whether a high-frequency (HF) reader using the NFC air-interface protocol or a passive ultrahigh-frequency (UHF) reader employing the ISO 18000-6C protocol—reads a unique serial number in the tag and user-memory fields. The reader does not actually open a webpage. Rather, software on a device connected to it (via Wi-Fi, Bluetooth or a direct wired connection) receives tag-read data and then opens a browser, depending on which tag is interrogated. A passive UHF reader can be integrated with a device or connected wirelessly, and the UHF tag-read event can be used as a trigger to have the device open a particular webpage.
