How Can I Implement RFID in Pasta Production Quality Management?
Would the technology be useful for this purpose?
It's difficult to answer your question without knowing more about your production processes, and about any issues that you might currently be experiencing, but I would say that radio frequency identification could probably be used on all raw materials received. This would enable you to easily manage inventory, so you would be sure you were using the sugar, flower and raw materials that arrived first, and not letting some ingredients go stale. If you have different grades of materials that go into different grades of pasta, RFID could be used to ensure that workers never mixed a lesser-quality item into a high-quality batch.
Because RFID tags contain unique serial numbers, it would likely be easier to track individual lots and the inputs for each lot, which would likely aid in quality management. For example, if a batch of pasta were considered to be of less than your normal quality, you would be able to trace back the source of the flour and other inputs to determine what the problem was.
