Can I Extend a Passive Tag's Read Range By Using a Repeater?

Posted By RFID Journal, 01.20.2014

The tag I am using is embedded in metal. so the read range is short. Does anyone have experience with repeating a tag to allow for greater range?

Repeaters essentially pick up a signal and rebroadcast it in order to achieve a longer read range. These are used in some active RFID systems, but I have never heard of a repeater being used with a passive system. If anyone knows if and how this can be accomplished, they are invited to post information below.
