Are There Mobile Fuel Suppliers That Use RFID for Refueling Equipment in the Field?
Specifically, do any businesses utilize the technology for oilfield equipment?
There are companies using RFID to monitor the refueling of trucks, but I am unaware of any that do so for refueling oilfield equipment.
Mini-Tankers, a diesel refueling service based in Auckland, New Zealand, is employing high-frequency (HF) passive tags and interrogators, combined with Global Positioning System (GPS) and cell-phone technology, to track its customers' fuel consumption, improve billing and simplify administrative tasks. This enables Mini-Tankers' customers—which include airports, as well as logging, mining, construction and civil engineering firms—to receive detailed fuel-consumption analyses designed to help them make smarter business decisions (see New Zealand Refueling Company Tanks Up With RFID).
An Ontario, Canada-based hydropower distribution company called Horizon Utilities Corp. utilizes an RFID-powered fuel-management system to enable and track its vehicles' fueling. The system was developed by Israeli firm Orpak Systems Ltd., and was provided by Complete Innovations' Fuel Fast division. Horizon Utilities took the system live in November 2009 (see Electric Company Gases Up on RFID).
Viridis, a Toronto-based provider of vehicle-fuel dispensing systems for compressed natural gas, as well as hydrogen, has developed an RFID-based system for ensuring safety and accurate billing when refueling CNG vehicles (see RFID to Ensure Safe Refueling of Natural Gas Vehicles).
