What Are Some Applications of RFID for Taxi Service Companies?
And have you written any stories about cabs taking payments via RFID-enabled credit cards?
Yes, we have written a number of articles regarding the use of RFID-enabled credit cards in taxis (see Philly Cabs Taking RFID Payments on the Road and Cashless RFID Payments in Tokyo Taxis). We've also written about airports utilizing the technology to manage taxis and their access to terminals (see RFID News Roundup: Taxis at Monterrey International Airport Get Tagged). However, we have not written specifically about taxi services using radio frequency identification.
RFID can be employed for the rapid counting or tracking of items. I don't know what objects or people you wish to count or monitor daily, so it would be difficult for me to say which applications of the technology would make sense for you. I would imagine you might want to track spare parts and tires for vehicles, so that might be one application. You might also have drivers check in using RFID, in order to track vehicles as they come and go, so you could automatically know which cars were on the streets and which were not.
I'm sure there are other potential uses as well, but since I am unfamiliar with your business, I would not be able to identify them. Perhaps some of our readers who have worked at taxi companies can offer ideas.
