What Are the Most Popular RFID Solutions for Tracking Data-Center Assets?
My company has been contracted to identify a solution for monitoring equipment within a data center. The system would need to be based on passive radio frequency identification. Could you kindly share with me some of the most popular products out there? Your insightful information would be highly appreciated.
I am unsure if it's really possible, at this stage, to identify which solutions are the most popular. Cisco chose RFID Global Solution for a major deployment that proved very successful (see Cisco Tracks IT Assets Via RFID). RFID Global Solution has also carried out major deployments for Bank of America (see Bank of America Deploys RFID in Data Centers), the United States Social Security Administration (see Social Security Administration Tracks Data-Center Assets) and others. So I would say their solution is one of the leading passive ultrahigh-frequency (UHF) systems currently available in the marketplace.
PC Guardian also introduced an IT asset-tracking solution that year. It was designed to help companies track, monitor, manage and secure their servers, as well as other IT equipment and parts (see PC Guardian Debuts RFID Suite for IT Asset Tracking).
And Xterprise, which was recently acquired by SML Group (see SML Buys Software Company Xterprise), offers an IT asset-tracking solution combining software and EPC Gen 2 UHF RFID hardware (see Xterprise Rolls Out IT Asset-Tracking Solution).
There are, of course, many active systems in the marketplace, including a popular offering from RF Code.
