IoT in Health Care Webinar: View the Presentation

By RFID Journal

Last week, RFID Journal hosted a webinar with HID Global. The video and slides from that webinar are now available online.

On Oct. 10, 2019, RFID Journal hosted a webinar provided by Robert Kowalik, HID Global's practice director for location services specializing in health care. An archived recording of the presentation, titled "Redefining IoT in Healthcare," is now available for viewing on demand, along with the presenter's slides.

The complexities of delivering and managing patient care and operational departmental workflows across the health-care continuum are more acute than ever. With that in mind, Kowalik explained how to implement an Internet of Things (IoT)-based architecture across a single network, enabling multiple solutions. Attendees learned how to extend their ecosystem of real-time point solutions, including location services, environmental monitoring, hand-hygiene compliance, wayfinding and other business analytics.

Kowalik outlined how this can result in 70 percent lower tag costs than with other asset-tracking systems, 90 percent lower infrastructure costs and an open architecture allowing for uncomplicated integration. Implementing smarter health-care operations can improve throughput, he said, while increasing return on investment (ROI) by connecting individuals, devices and buildings across a hospital, clinic or campus. The speaker discussed how this is being done at a large teaching facility and at other health-care organizations.

The next RFID Journal event will be RFID Journal LIVE! Europe 2019, which will be held on Nov. 13 in London, England. RFID technology is now being deployed at large and midsize companies to improve efficiencies, enhance visibility, reduce shrinkage and achieve other significant business benefits. This one-day event (with a day of training on Nov. 12) is designed to help companies use RFID technology to address real business challenges, determine the best RFID technology for their needs, learn best practices from early adopters, find the right technology partners and move forward with adoption.

Then, on Sept. 9-11, 2020, RFID Journal LIVE! 2020 will be held in Orlando, Fla. LIVE! is the world's largest and most important event focused on radio frequency identification and related technologies. Next year's LIVE! event will feature more than 200 exhibitors from 26 countries. The conference program will offer more than 100 sessions, including more than 50 new end-user case studies, and the agenda will comprise tracks covering RFID deployments in retail, manufacturing, health care and other industries. The event will also provide RFID Professional Institute certification training on Apr. 28.
