CAEN RFID, a global provider of UHF RFID products, announces the release of the qIDminiT, a new Bluetooth UHF RFID reader of its easy2read© family developed in conjunction with Extronics, a leading global designer and manufacturer of intrinsically safe and explosion proof equipment.

The qIDminiT is an intrinsically safe handheld RFID reader, designed for use in hazardous areas and harsh environments such as offshore, marine, chemical, and industrial environments. The device is certified for use in ATEX and IECEx Zones 1, 2, 21, and 22.

It has an integrated antenna suited for short to medium range applications and, thanks to the Bluetooth® communication interface, it is a perfect UHF RFID add-on for any Bluetooth® enabled host such as a PC, a smartphone, a PDA or a tablet. The reader is compatible with Windows XP/7, Windows CE/Mobile and Android.

Lightweight and ergonomic, the qIDminiT is easy to use with one hand. The stylus nib makes adding additional information on a touchscreen simple, allowing for more detailed records to be kept.

The interface, besides an LCD display and a buzzer, includes a vibrator suited for signaling in noisy environments where the buzzer cannot be heard.

A battery life of 12 hours whilst being used for thousands of tag reads means that the qIDminiT is a viable accompaniment for workers during long shifts.

Moreover the qIDminiT supports a dual mode operation; having a large internal memory the qIDminiT can be used in conjunction with a smartphone or Tablet, or as a standalone device, giving you greater efficiency and flexibility of usage.

"Thanks to the cooperation with Extronics" says David Pallassini, sales manager of CAEN RFID, "we are now able to provide to our customers a compact and powerful intrinsically safe handheld RFID reader for harsh environment and hazardous areas adding a new strategic device to our product portfolio."

Designed for mobile operators in outdoor and hazardous areas, the qIDmini is ideal for supporting operations such as inventory management, tracking and tracing, maintenance planning, and regulatory compliance.
