Trials and early implementations of sponge-tracking solutions were successful.
ClearCount Medial Solutions appears to have gone out of business, as its website no longer exists. I found one mention on the Web of ClearCount being acquired, but I could not determine who acquired it. Haldor Advanced Technologies, still offers its ORLocate sponge-tracking system. RF Surgical's system was acquired by Medtronic, which I believe still offers it. We reported in 2006 that Medline was offering a sponge-tracking system (see Medline Markets RF System for Surgical Sponges). However, I see no evidence on the company's website that it still sells this technology.
