Can active tags work with passive readers? If not, where can I purchase active readers? If used correctly, would an inexpensive active RFID system have a read range of about a meter?

Active tags are usually purchased as part of a system that includes readers and software for locating a tagged object on a map. Active tags do not work with passive readers, and they usually have a read range of about 100 meters (328 feet). If you want to identify an object from a distance of 1 meter (3.3 feet), you can use a passive low-frequency (LF), high-frequency (HF) or ultrahigh-frequency (UHF) transponder. Passive tags and readers can be easily purchased on the Internet.
