Ask The ExpertsWhere Can I Find RFID Technology With a Short Read Distance?

I seek a passive RFID system with a read distance of 10 inches or less. The reader would need to be low-powered, preferably battery-powered. Can you advise a suitable system?

Passive high-frequency (HF) RFID solutions based on the ISO 14443 standard are designed to have a short read distance. You can also use HF systems based on ISO 15693, and reduce the power output in order to decrease the read range to 10 inches or less. If you are looking for a fixed reader that would be mounted on a wall, you can purchase one from Daily RFID Co. (see Bluetooth UHF RFID Reader). If a handheld RFID reader would work for your needs, the BlueBerry HS HF, from Tertium Technology, might fit the bill. It is small and low-powered, and can connect to a PC via a Bluetooth connection or a USB cable.
