There are a variety of RFID-enabled seals on the market. Some use an active RFID transponder—that is, battery-powered—while others utilize passive tags. There are bolt seals, cable seals and other types. All, or virtually all, are designed to indicate when the seal has been broken or tampered with.
Active seals have a longer read range because they broadcast a signal. Passive tags have a read range of anywhere from 1 foot to 15 or 20 feet.
