Are there any companies that offer tags, readers and herd-management software for animal tracking?
Many companies offer tags and readers for tracking livestock, but relatively few offer software. One company that offers a complete solution is Avante. The company’s Livestock-Trakker includes tags, readers and software for animal tracking.
Agriculture technology company TekVet offers an active RFID cattle-tracking system that includes health monitoring and a website that displays details about an individual animal’s history and health condition (see TekVet-IBM Cattle Tracker Uses Active RFID Tags, Satellite Communication). DVM Systems offers a similar solution. Both use a temperature sensor that provides early illness detection and breeding alerts to ensure that animals are cared for properly, and both offer some basic herd-management software.
Many ranchers buy the necessary hardware and software and then utilize generic RFID software that associates tags with assets (in this case, animals).
