There are many enterprise asset-tracking applications currently on the market. Some are geared toward specific industries, such as health care or automotive manufacturing, while others are intended for tracking larger assets over long distances (1,000 feet or more). Still others are used to monitor smaller assets over shorter distances. It would be impossible to recommend a system for you without knowing what you want to track and over what distance.
I would suggest that you make a list of the items you would like to track, and then group them into those that might be tracked over long distances (say, within a large production area) and those that might be monitored over short distances (such as items in a laboratory or shop). I would then prioritize them. This will help you determine whether you need an active RFID real-time location system (RTLS) or a passive RFID solution. You can then begin evaluating vendors and their offerings.
