Which brands of tags, interrogators or hardware would you recommend?

It would be difficult to make a specific recommendation without knowing about your laundry operations.

The first decision that you would need to make is whether you want to employ high-frequency (HF) or ultrahigh-frequency (UHF) tags. HF tags have a read range of within 3 feet, while UHF tags have a range of 20 feet or more. There are tags designed to withstand numerous washings at high temperatures. iDTRONIC makes an HF laundry tag, and HID Global offers several HF and UHF tags, including the Logi tag, the LogiButton Tag and the SlimFlex Laundry Tag.

William Frick & Co. produces a UHF RFID Wire Laundry Tag and a UHF Silicone RFID Laundry Tag. Fujitsu's WT-A521 and WT-A522 tags, meanwhile, are washable and nonmetallic, so they can be used at hospitals with MRI rooms in which large magnetic fields are present.

There are a wide variety of UHF and HF readers suitable for laundry applications. There are also companies offering laundry software solutions, including InvoTech Systems, RFID Laundry Consultant and Towel Tracker.

Most of the tag and reader companies will be exhibiting at RFID Journal LIVE! 2013, our 11th annual conference and exhibition, which will be held in Orlando, Fla., from Apr. 30 to May 2. You might want to attend the event and meet with their representatives in person.
