What does the term "RFID network" mean?

"RFID network" is a nebulous term. It generally refers to a network of readers, but readers are not networked in the way that computers are networked. Any computer on a network can send data to any other computer. But an RFID reader typically transmits information only to a server that filters it and then forwards it on to a database for use by one or more applications. Readers do not send data to each other.

There are also RFID sensors networks in which each node has an operating system and can communicate with other nodes. These RFID sensors can determine the temperature, for example, in the area where it is located, and then transmit that information to another node, and another, and finally to a node connected to a base station linked to a server.
