What formal processes do I need to follow?

There is no formal procedure. I would recommend you work with a good systems integrator. They or an inventory company can apply an RFID tag to each IT asset, and link that tag's ID number to the model number in a database. Many businesses are using carts with a passive ultrahigh-frequency (UHF) reader and several antennas. The cart is wheeled up and down the aisles to take inventory. If your assets are frequently moved, you may wish to create portals at the entry and exit points of data centers, so assets can be identified as they enter or leave an area.
